Summary
This Registered Nurse position will serve as the NWI VISN 23 Consolidated Call Center (V23CCC) Nurse Manager. The Nurse Manager Oversee's the entire NWI V23 CCC operation (Nurse Triage, Pharmacy, and Scheduling). The Manager will be responsible for staffing the department on a daily basis, matching staffing with call volumes, and working with other V23 CCC Nurse Managers to identify and share resources.

Responsibilities
The duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work;
Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective coordination of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates;
Evaluating the performance of subordinates;
Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious, unresolved, complaints to higher level supervisors;
Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate;
Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making decision for such development and training;
Additionally, the position is responsible for monitoring call center performance (Average Speed to Answer, Abandonment Rate, etc.), performance improvement, customer/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards;
Actively develops and manages collaborative partnership with clinic staff and other departments;
Participates on VISN and other committees and task forces to improve the patient experience;
Works in partnership with the Union and adheres to EEO principles;
In the absence of a Nurse Manager, a cross-covering V23 CCC Nurse Manager will be designated to handle administrative and clinical issues, such as staffing coverage, granting leave, and patient and/or staff issues.
Responsible to work with other V23CCC Nurse Managers to monitor and review the scope, plan, and accuracy of the Performance Improvement Program within the V23CCC;
Responsible for meeting the competency based performance standards as demonstrated by the Nurse Manager Competency;
Responsible for working with V23 CCC leadership in developing and implementing policies and directives; setting and monitoring budgets; attending required meetings; handling communications; making purchasing decisions and ensuring the V23 CCC educator educates all staff on policies and procedures and completes competencies;
Responsible for consulting with the V23 CCC Medical Director on identified V23 CCC issues or concerns
Responsible for ensuring all V23 CCC staff are performing their primary assignments.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements
:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR
The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR
In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
* Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
* Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
* Five years of RN experience in a clinical setting.
Grade Determinations
: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
* Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
* Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree.

VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting up to 35 pounds for 8-12 hours, intermittently, moderate carrying (15-35 pounds) for 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient care, pulling for 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, pushing for 8-12 hours, intermittently, reaching above the shoulders for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both hands required, walking 8-12 hours, intermittently, standing 8-12 hours intermittently, kneeling 8 to 12 hours, intermittently, repeated bending for 8-12 hours, intermittently, climbing and use of both legs and arms for 8-12 hours, intermittently, both legs required, near vision at 13 to 16 Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing aid permitted, twisting, simply grasp and fine manipulation.
