For those who don’t want to break up face to face, or even phone to phone, you don’t have to. SlyDial let’s you deliver the bad news by going straight to voicemail.
Started in March by Gavin Macomber of Mobile Sphere Ltd. in Boston, SlyDial allows users to avoid conversations and get right to the point.
A caller first dials 267-SLYDIAL, enters the other phone number, then has to listen to a commercial (unless they pay a 15 cent charge or are a subscriber), and after that, they go right to voicemail.
Not only just for firings and saying good bye, SlyDial also allows users to leave reminders and avoid time zone disturbances and other plain old cell phone annoyances. As of now it’s set up for US users, and requires caller ID to avoid harassment problems.
While the service already exists for users with the same carriers, SlyDial allows voicemail calling among any and all phone companies.
Some would say it does take the human element out of the equation and lets people off the hook too easily. Still, many people just want to get to the point, and let the other one down gently.
