NotifyMD will create about 200 new call center jobs in a former manufacturing plant in Winthrop, Maine.

Company officials joined Democratic Governor John Baldacci this week in announcing the new tenant.

The Tennessee-based company has six call centers already, including a Farmington call center that employs 80 people.

The company's clients include 4,000 physician practices, which translates to about 20,000 physicians and 175,000 inbound calls each day.

The company provides services to physicians and hospitals, including after-hours messaging, daytime business call management, patient notification and other services. The company also provides proactive-care management, such as reminding people that it's time for an annual physical, mammogram or other medical procedure.

NotifyMD said their wages are higher than average, and the company offers health-care coverage and other benefits.

At the Farmington call center, the starting wage is $9 an hour. About 80 people work at Farmington's center, with room for another 25.
