New York's JPMorgan Chase will spare the Washington Mutual regional operations center in San Antonio, as the firm prepares to lay off thousands of WaMu employees.
The center currently employs 1,800 people.
JPMorgan will also keep its own call center, located in San Antonio. That center housed some 2,500 employees, prior to the WaMu acquisition earlier this fall.
This week about WaMu 4,000 employees were told that their jobs were being eliminated, and that they would be released no later than January 30th.
An additional 5,200 employees have been told that they are in transition roles, and that their jobs will be ending in 2009.
No significant job reductions are expected for San Antonio.
JPMorgan Chase acquired Seattle-based WaMus banking operations from the FDIC for about $2 billion, and assumed the lenders troubled mortgage loan portfolio.
